Gimmicks
Some of you Maggots think that Slipknot are genius's because they thought up the idea of using masks, jumpsuits, and calling their fans "Maggots". Well, those are all pretty creative gimmicks, don't you think? Well, I don't. Slipknot are simply "ripping off" the ideas of other bands that used these ideas earlier in their careers! "No!!" you say? "Slipknot are original and thought up everything on their own!" you say? WRONG. Slipknot are in fact simply copying the ideas of older bands. "Well, they're not using it as a gimmick to get attention!" you say? "They just don't want to shows their faces!" you say? Once again, you pathetic Maggots are wrong. Stolen Gimmicks Some of you Maggots may think that Slipknot created these Gimmicks, but they really didn't! In fact, they ripped off a lot of them. The mask idea is not really there's. Some of you may also think that they ripped it off from Mushroomhead. But in fact, they didn't. Both Mushroomhead and Slipknot ripped off the mask ideas from a band created by the musical genius, Mike Patton. This band was called "Mr. Bungle". Mr. Bungle decided to wear masks in order to not let anyone see that this band was created and led by Mike Patton. You see, there's a difference between Mr. Bungle and Slipknot. Slipknot uses the masks to get attention, while Mr. Bungle used them to look "unique" and cover up the fact that the band was lead by Mike Patton. But if you're thinking that Mike Patton did this for the same reason as Slipknot, you're wrong. Mike Patton does this with almost every project he has created. So you see, Slipknot did not originally create the mask ideas, Mr. Bungle did. Just look at the two images below, and compare the looks of both Slipknot and Mr. Bungle.
Gimmicks for Attention I've gotten tons of e-mails from many Maggots and almost all of them say the same thing: "You're gay, and Slipknot use the masks because they don't want to show their faces!!!". Well, no, I'm not a homosexual, and no, Slipknot don't use the masks for that reason. When Slipknot released their first album (Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat), there were no masks or gimmicks involved. Then new members came in, and members left. a total of 9 members were left. I don't think it's necessary to have two people punching drums. I believe having 9 members is a gimmick for attention. When I hear a Slipknot song, I don't hear any percussion except for the drums. Of course, another gimmick that Slipknot uses is their "Satanic" image. Example: the goat, Shawn's mask, their lyrics. According to people-equal-shit.com, those are not Satanic gimmicks. Their explanations are: "In Iowa, you're either a sheep or a goat, and Slipknot are goats." For the goat, "Slipknot believes that the world is 555's and they're the 666's" for the "Heretic Anthem", and they've failed to explain why Shawn's mask has the number "666" or sometimes just "6" on it. Well, I believe that they're wrong! I've studied the Christian religion, and they believe that when Jesus resurrects from the dead, the world will split up into two groups: "sheeps", the believers and followers, and "goats" the Nonbelievers and Satan Worshipers. My theory is as follows: Slipknot are putting on the Satanic image through a Christian belief that not many people are aware of. Lastly, and most importantly, the masks. As we all know, Slipknot didn't come up with the idea. Further more, they use the masks to get attention from the public. "No" you say? "They do it for the same reason as Bungle" you say? Well, no. Mr. Bungle rarely changed their masks. On the other hand, whenever Slipknot change their masks, they make a HUGE deal about it. When on tour with Ozzfest 2001, Slipknot did make a big announcement about them changing their masks. Now, doesn't this sound like a gimmick to you? If it doesn't, then just look at this image. I scanned it out of a magazine. It also needed a change of wording. FACT: Slipknot didn't come up with calling their fans Maggots. It was originally done by Cannibal Corpse, but they realized that was idiotic, and stopped almost immediately. All images found and taken from google.com.
